Your Claude limits in the Mac menu bar
LimitRing shows how much of your session and weekly limit you've used and when each one resets. Free, works with Claude Code.
In this example the session limit is at 42% and resets in 2 hours 10 minutes. The weekly limit for all models is at 84%.
What it shows
Know what's left before you start a big task
In the menu bar
A ring and a number, like 42% · 2h 10m. That's how much of your session limit you've used, and how long until it starts over. At 90% the ring turns red.
Every limit in one click
Session, weekly for all models and weekly for single models. Each one has a bar and its exact reset time: the day and the hour.
A card on your desktop
The same numbers on your desktop, like a macOS widget. Move it anywhere, keep it on top of your windows, or hide it.
Install
One line in Terminal
Open Terminal, paste this line and press Enter. LimitRing shows up in your menu bar a few seconds later.
On your phone? LimitRing is a Mac app. Send this link to yourself and open it on your Mac.
curl -fsSL https://limitring.aembaltic.com/install.sh | bash
The line downloads LimitRing from this page, puts it in the Applications folder inside your home folder and opens it. No sudo, nothing else gets installed. Read the script
What you need
- A Mac with macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel
- Claude Code, logged in with a Claude Pro or Max account
Download without Terminal
LimitRing isn't signed with an Apple developer certificate yet, so the first time macOS asks you to confirm:
- Open the downloaded file and move LimitRing to your Applications folder.
- Open LimitRing. macOS shows a warning, click Done.
- Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway near the bottom.
- Enter your Mac password. LimitRing appears in the menu bar.

How it works
The numbers come from Claude Code itself
Every 5 minutes
LimitRing runs Claude Code's /usage command, the same one you can type yourself. Right after a limit resets, it checks again.
Your login stays untouched
LimitRing never reads your login, password or Keychain, and sends them nowhere. Claude Code handles the login itself.
Uses none of your limit
The /usage command answers locally and sends nothing to a model. As a safety lock LimitRing names a model that doesn't exist, so even an old Claude Code version can't spend your limit.
Sends none of your data
Apart from the Claude Code check, LimitRing fetches just one small file from this page once a day, to see if there's a newer version. It sends none of your data anywhere, and there are no analytics.

Who made it
15 minutes from idea to app
I'm Aksels, founder of AEM Baltic. I'm not a programmer. On a Saturday night I typed one sentence to Claude Code: build me a widget where I can see my Claude usage and resets. 15 minutes later it was running on my Mac.
Now LimitRing is free for everyone.
This is how AEM Baltic builds Google Ads campaigns and websites too: I decide what's needed, and AI helps build it fast.

FAQ
Questions people ask
Is LimitRing really free?
Yes. No price, no sign-up, no ads.
Does it use up my Claude limit?
No. The /usage command answers locally and sends nothing to a model. As a safety lock LimitRing names a model that doesn't exist, so even an old Claude Code version couldn't spend your limit.
Why install through Terminal?
It's the fastest way: one line, and macOS doesn't ask you to approve an unknown developer. Claude Code users already know Terminal. If you'd rather not, download the zip file.
Is it safe?
LimitRing only runs the /usage command and shows the result. It never reads your password or login. The install script is short, and you can read it before you run it.
Which Claude plans does it work with?
Claude Pro and Max, when Claude Code is logged in with a Claude account. If Claude Code uses an API key there are no plan limits, and LimitRing tells you so. Tested with a Max plan.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Yes. One file works on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 13 or later. Tested on an Apple Silicon Mac.
How do I stop it opening at login, or remove it?
In its menu bar panel, switch off Open at login. To remove it completely, paste this line into Terminal:
pkill -x LimitRing; rm -rf ~/Applications/LimitRing.app ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.aembaltic.limitring.plist ~/Library/Application\ Support/LimitRing; defaults delete com.aembaltic.limitring
Is LimitRing made by Anthropic?
No. LimitRing is made by AEM Baltic and is not affiliated with Anthropic. Claude and Claude Code are trademarks of Anthropic.
Is there a Windows version?
No, LimitRing is a Mac app only.
